I had the best birthday ever. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as the celebration part went, it was just that every single thing about it was perfect in my opinion.
My hubby’s gift to me was a plane ticket to Atlanta to visit my BFF, who I hadn’t seen in awhile. We kicked her family out of their house (many kudos to all the grandparents involved in taking care of her 3 boys!) and did whatever we wanted to do, whenever we wanted to do it — all weekend long. It was awesome.
It involved talking, wine, shopping, snow, rain, blue skies, a decrepit Maltese named Emma, movies, more talking, more wine, and more food. Much needed girl time and down time. Like I said, it was awesome.
Then, Doppelganger (a dear friend who calls me her Texas Twin), sent me an iPad. A freaking iPad. She had won one in a drawing a couple of weeks ago, and because she already had one, decided to send it to me for my birthday. An iPad that she could have sold and made a few large bills off of. A freaking iPad. Who does that?!?!?! An awesome friend, that’s who!!!
|Doppleganger, I tell you!!
My husband gave me beautiful roses and the best card ever. It had a picture of 2 people tooling around on a Vespa, and to the side, he wrote all the places he wants us to go tooling around on scooters together. I’m so glad I married a man who wants to explore the world via Vespa!
Then, he and I went to one of my favorite places for dinner. I wanted a steak that had recently finished being a cow and a martini the size of a fishbowl. For that, I like to go to Bob’s Chop House. The bread is heavenly (served with fresh butter, thankyouverymuch!) and they have these cucumbers and red bell peppers in this amazing garlicky brine right there in a jar on the table for your eating enjoyment. And the Bobtini? A dirty martini with bleu-cheese stuffed olives. To. Die. For. It was sheer gastronomic perfection.
Best of all? The company. Anyone who knows me, knows I am not one to gush over the lovey-dovey stuff, but Hubby and I had the best conversation last night. We were “That Couple” you see in restaurants who are totally into each other, having a great, intimate time. And it felt good.
[Don’t worry, guys, I’m not going to turn into someone you want to block from Facebook because all they ever talk about is how magical and fairytale-like their life is, and how wonderful and handsome and attentive and thoughtful their husband is, and how well-behaved and thoughtful and talented and smart their kids are. No way. ::gagme::]
I have a feeling that this is going to be My Best Year Yet. I’m excited to see what God’s got in store for my life this year. Thanks to all of you who join me on the journey. I am blessed. Abundantly.
