Revenge is a Dish Best Served…Sweet

We had just left the Eiffel Tower (after getting there at opening time and having to wait in line for only 20 minutes, thankyouverymuch!), and were starving.  We crossed the Seine and walked east along the Right Bank, taking as many pictures as we could whilst also looking for signs of retail in the predominantly residential 16emè.

Starving.  Gnawing in my belly.  All I could think about was food, food, food.  Feeling faint with hunger.  Can barely find the energy to put one foot in front of the other…
But – wait just a tick!  What’s that over there?  Hunger forgotten, I had a new focus once I spotted Princess Diana’s Flame (which I later found out is properly called Liberty’s Flame).

Luckily, there isn’t much to see besides this solitary monument, and the next thing we spotted was a cafe.  Like an oasis in the desert.

Grand Corona Brasserie.  This was the view skyward from our table.  We had an excellent lunch, followed by and even more excellent dessert: profiteroles.

The very best part of the meal?  One-upping the snooty waiter when I asked for profiteroles.  He looked at me like a poor, stupid American and told me that wasn’t available.  I kindly pointed to the Daily Specials board, and watched his attitude do a 180°.  I don’t know if it was *that* or the actual way the food tasted, but that will go down in my mind as the sweetest dessert I ever had.
